Blaqcix (aka Weston B. Means) has been around the American electronic music scene in various forms and cities for many, many years. After getting his first pair of turntables when he was 13, he learned how to match beats and scratch and, not long after that, started dabbling in music production. Moving away to Honolulu, Hawaii to attend college, he picked up a copy of Reason 1.0 and forced himself to learn everything there was to learn about electronic music production. It was during these formative years as an artist that a bright future within the electronic music scene would begin to emerge.
Upon returning to the mainland US, his skills began to grow rapidly and finally reach fruition as he became part of Defiant, a drum n bass group that had releases on G2 and Magic Vinyl based out of Los Angeles, CA. During these years he cultivated his individual style as a producer and DJ and played alongside many drum n bass big names including: Pendulum, Raiden, Gridlok, Hive and many others. In December of 2004, Defiant relocated to the great state of Wisconsin with their eyes set on the future. Unfortunately, shortly after moving to Milwaukee in June of 2005, Defiant separated. However, out of this came another collaboration that would quickly become titanic in stature.
Going under the moniker “Gein” the trio absolutely dominated the American Midwest for all things DnB when they released the “Street Sweeper EP” on the now defunct but eternally legendary UK based Moving Shadow. Following that up with a plethora of releases over the next several years that include the biggest labels in the drum n bass game (Tech Itch, Penetration, Freak Recordings, Algorhythm, Tech Freak, Habit) Gein expanded their discography and collaborated with some of the brightest stars that drum n bass has ever produced. During their travels around the world, they shared a stage with nearly every relevant drum n bass act at one point or another. Then in mid 2009, Gein founded Bad Chemistry Recordings and began redefining their sound all over again.
Eventually, Weston felt the urge to branch out even further and become a more well-rounded artist and with this philosophy in mind, Blaqcix was born. Blaqcix is a culmination of nearly 15 years of production and DJing experience across a wide variety of genres and a return to the roots of a man who has been the driving creative and technical force for many successful endeavors. Encompassing anything from classical music to the most heavy and demented drum n bass and everything in between, Blaqcix will surely be a name to keep your eyes on for years to come.
